Business Phone with dual personalities

Building on the success of E71, Nokia comes up with another smart business phone boasting innovative design and enhanced performance. Would the E75 live up to market expectations?

At 11.18 long, 5cm wide and 1.44 cm thick, the E75 would have easily passed off as candy bar.

But there’s more to the E75, Flick it sideways and it extend 3 cm more, revealing a full qwerty keypad.

At this point, the E75 takes on a different personality. The hidden qwerty keypad has well spaced- albeit flat keys- that favor Web surfers or text message and e-mail obsessed users.

The phone’s 2.4 inch screen (320 x 240 pixels) also reorients itself automatically into landscape mode.

Business Oriented

Since the E75 is business-oriented, one could find on the menu a whole office folder that contains a calculator, active notes, dictionary, file manager, Internet, converter, Zip manager, Adobe PDF and Quickoffice, which allows one to read and edit word, excel and Powerpoint files.

The E75’s calendar could show all scheduled meetings, memos and anniversaries, as well as create a detailed meeting with an alarm prior to the event.

Like all recent Nokia smartphones, the E75 support high-speed downlink packet access (3.5 G), Wi-Fi, FM radio, as well as GPs for navigation and Bluetooth A2DP, which allows high-fidelity audio to be streamed from one Bluetooth device to another.

Multimedia functions

The E75 runs on an advanced Symbian S60 3rd edition v 9.3 (with feature pack 2) operating system, which allows one to download thousands of applications from third party developers.

The OS allows one to also personalize the whole device from home screen to the menu structure.

For those who want to put business matters aside for a while, the E75 offers all basic multimedia functions, including music and video player.

The phone has a 3.2 mega pixel camera that performs decently as long as there’s plenty of light around. In video record mode, the camera could support a VGA resolution at 30fps.

With its ability to share content immediately either through MMs or social networking sites (Nokia’s Ovishare, Flicker, etc.) this work-oriented device is also ready to play anytime as well.

Readily Connect

Since the E75 comes bundled with a $Gb MicroSD card, owners need not worry about running out of storage space.

Most headset and earphones should readily connect to the E75 thanks to its 3.5 mm audio jack (as opposed to the much smaller 2.5 mm jack that still requires adaptors)

Interestingly, the E75 is also the first E-series device to support Nokia’s gaming platform, N-Gage (one could download trial versions or buy the actual game).

Priced upwards of $400, the E75 is an interesting preposition. As a business phone, the E75 does well thanks to the hidden keyboard and its ability to handle POP3, IMAP, and exchange e-mail, and has a wizard that can set up most accounts with a minimum of user input.

Its mostly stainless steel finishing also helps in giving the E75 a nice classy expensive feel and weight.
